Fly: A Song of Midlife Transformation and Hope

NOTE: For the lyrics, please scroll down to after the blog.

Behind every great song lies a story of transformation and hope. For me, that story began in the depths of a midlife crisis, a time of upheaval, uncertainty, and profound change. In early January 2025, I commissioned the song Fly as a personal anthem and a message to everyone navigating midlife transitions. It’s about resilience, perseverance, overcoming challenges, and more.

The Storm Before the Flight

Life has a way of throwing us into turbulent waters, and between 2020 and 2023, I found myself caught in an imperfect storm that threatened to pull me under. I faced:

🚨 A midlife crisis
💔 The passing of my mother from cancer and a long period of grieving
😞 A job I could no longer stand
💰 A financial matter that took two long, highly stressful years to resolve
🌍 And, of course, the global pandemic

These events weren’t just obstacles; they were relentless waves crashing down on me, one after another. The burden felt insurmountable.

I was lost, adrift, confused, lacking direction, overwhelmed, stressed, isolated, depressed, and utterly helpless. I knew I wasn’t alone. Midlife transitions can throw anyone off course, making them question everything they thought they knew.

During those dark years, one lyric played on repeat in my mind:

“I want to get away, I want to fly away” by Lenny Kravitz

But instead of inspiring me, the song echoed my desperate desire to escape. I wasn’t dreaming of soaring. Instead, I was dreaming of escaping but didn’t know where. Escaping wasn’t the ideal answer.

Then, something changed. The universe started calling me toward something greater.

The Calling: A Vision Takes Shape

By early spring 2024, I felt something stir deep inside me. It was as if the universe had whispered a challenge in my ear, nudging me forward. I felt like Kevin Costner in Field of Dreams, only instead of hearing a voice saying,

“If you build it, they will come,” I felt an unrelenting pull in my heart, mind, and gut:

Give this song life.

Month after month, the calling grew stronger. I resisted at first, thinking it was just a fleeting thought. But by early January 2025, I knew the time had come.

This wasn’t just about me. It was about all of us.

Why Fly Matters

Fly is more than just a song. It’s a message to all midlifers navigating transitions: midlife isn’t the end. It’s the beginning of an even greater second act.

Each of us has faced moments of doubt when life felt overwhelming, obstacles seemed insurmountable, and dreams appeared out of reach. But in those moments, we have a choice: to stay grounded in fear or to rise above and fly.

When I set out to bring Fly to life, I wanted to create something that would remind people of their inner strength and ability to soar. I wanted it to be a song that ignites something deep inside, a spark that says, “Yes, I can do this. Change is possible.”

I want to share Fly with the world and hope it reaches those who need it most.

Bringing Fly to Life

Have you ever felt stuck, knowing you were meant for more but unsure how to break free? I sure did from 2020 to 2023!

When I first contacted Greg B. about creating this song, I was transitioning through the last of the seven midlife crisis stages, acceptance. I had no melody, only raw ideas and a vision. I poured everything into fifteen pages of notes, capturing the themes of inspiration, empowerment, optimism, and purpose. I wanted Fly to reflect the realization that midlife isn’t an ending but a roadmap to something greater.

In early January 2025, I sent my notes to Greg, and he worked his magic. A gifted songwriter and composer, he transformed my scattered thoughts into lyrics that spoke to midlifers everywhere.

But a song isn’t just words. It needs a voice.

That’s when Greg reached out to an artist he’s known for 20 years, someone whose voice carries the perfect balance of power, vulnerability, and emotional depth. I was overwhelmed when I heard her sing Fly for the first time.

A Midlife Anthem is Born

The first time I heard the demo version of Fly, I was overcome with emotions and thoughts of those stormy days from 2020 to 2023. The range of emotion, the melody, the message, and how it all came together exceeded my expectations!

I then realized that Fly wasn’t just a song but a movement.

This isn’t just music. It’s a wake-up call for every midlifer who has ever felt stuck, lost, or uncertain about their future. It’s a call to action for those ready to embrace their next chapter with confidence, purpose, passion, and empowerment.

Final Thoughts: Your Invitation to Fly

If you’re reading this and feeling stuck and unsure of what’s next, I want you to know you’re not alone. Midlife is full of challenges, but it’s also full of opportunities, and many others are sharing this journey and community.

Fly is here to remind you of that.

Whether you are chasing a dream, overcoming an obstacle, or searching for that extra push to keep going, this song is for you.

As you listen to Fly, I hope it ignites your spirit, inspires you, and reminds you to embrace the endless possibilities of your next chapter, one that’s even better than the last. Let yourself soar!

FLY

I think it’s time to make a change
Every day just looks the same
Feels like I’m drifting in mid-air
Life is patiently waiting for me to

Fly… I’m finally free
in the open sky I’ll find my community
who I’m supposed to be
when I come back down
I’ll land on solid ground
And I’ll be alright
right now it’s time…
to fly

Finding my purpose in midlife
That’s the reason I’m alive
if there’s a better version of me out there
I’ll find it I swear
If I dare to

Fly… I’m finally free
in the open sky I’ll find my community
who I’m supposed to be
when I come back down
I’ll land on solid ground
I’ll be alright
Right now it’s time…to fly
